Privacy in EISH

Beta version, 11 October 2026. This is our own review against South Africa's POPIA and Europe's GDPR. It has not yet been signed off by a lawyer.

The short version

You can play without an account and without giving your real name. Your game lives on your phone. We never ask for your ID number, address, income, contacts or photos, and we never sell anything about you.

What we keep, and why

  • Your game on your phone (avatar, home, money, progress). Stays on your device. Reason: so the game works.
  • Online backup, only if you sign in. Your email and your saved game. Reason: you asked us to keep it (contract).
  • Public things you choose to share: nickname, city posts, chat messages, reactions, scores, shared home. Reason: you chose to post them (consent). Anyone can see them.
  • Play counting, only if you tap yes. Which steps you reached, with a random code instead of your name, and your time zone. Reason: your consent. Kept 90 days, then only totals remain.
  • Invite code in links you share, so we can count invites. It is random and not linked to your name.
  • City ideas you send to a mayor. Reason: you sent them. Read by Mr President.

What we never collect

Real names, ID numbers, phone numbers, home addresses, income, health, contacts from WhatsApp, Meta, TikTok or X, your exact location, or your photos. The selfie colour match runs only on your phone and the photo is never sent.

South Africa (POPIA)

  • We only process what is needed for the game (minimality) and say why (purpose).
  • You may ask what we hold, ask us to fix it, or ask us to delete it.
  • Children: chat is for 18 and older. Under POPIA, children's details need a parent's consent, so the game does not ask children for any personal details.
  • You may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
  • Before public launch: register an Information Officer with the Regulator and sign a written agreement with our hosting provider.

Europe (GDPR)

  • Legal reasons used: consent (play counting, public posts), contract (online backup), and our legitimate interest in keeping the game safe (reports, blocking abuse).
  • Your rights: see your data, correct it, delete it, take a copy, object, and withdraw consent at any time.
  • Data may be stored outside the EU; this needs standard contract clauses with our providers.
  • You may complain to the data protection authority in your country.
  • Before launching in Europe: name an EU representative and keep a record of processing.

Your choices

  • Turn play counting on or off: Menu in the game.
  • Delete your game from this phone: Menu, start over.
  • Remove your shared home: Menu, stop sharing my home.
  • Anything else, including deleting your online backup: email privacy@eish.app and we will answer within 30 days.

Still open before public launch

  • Review by a South African and an EU privacy lawyer.
  • Information Officer registration (South Africa) and an EU representative.
  • Written agreements with hosting and sign-in providers.
